The Five and Dime

The Ad Diner Is Now Open

What is the Ad Diner? It is a new way for small businesses to acquire creative advertising, including TV, radio, print, direct mail, billboards.

The business goes to the site, picks their industry category, reviews the ads on the site, and if they like an ad or campaign, they make the purchase. The Ad Diner will then take their logo and their information and customize the ads to work in their market.

The idea is simple: an ad that works in Peoria would probably work just as well for a similar business in Jacksonville, or Chattanooga, or San Jose. The ads are sold to non-competing businesses in different markets, and licensed for one year.

Small businesses like the concept because they get creative work for less than what they would pay to create the work from scratch, plus they get to see what the ads look like in advance.

Creative people like the site because it gives them a chance to create new revenue streams from work that probably was just sitting on a shelf. (Or more literally, as a file on a computer.) It also gives them a chance to dust off old ideas that never sold to the client. The Ad Diner pays a royalty to the creative content contributor for every ad sold.

Currently the Ad Diner is in phase 1 of its launch: getting submissions from creative resources (ad agencies, production companies, freelancers. etc.) The criteria for submission is that it has to be a media that can be used at the local level (TV, radio. print ad, direct mail, etc.), it has to be creative, it has to offer a good value to the small business, and of course, it has to be legal. (The business offering the content must own the copyrights to the work.)

Small businesses that visit the site at this time can sign up to receive notices for when ads are placed on the site in their category.
